Addiction Rehab Centers

One of the best decisions that anyone can make is making the decision to live a sober life—a life free of addiction. After making that decision, the next best step to take is to call an addiction rehab center for help. I tried doing it on my own but the influence was so strong that I didn’t have enough will power to stop drinking alcohol. An addiction rehab center helped me to take the steps to recovery.

Prior to my recovery, I didn’t think I had a problem, until my alcoholism began to affect my performance at work. I remember when looked forward to every Friday evening for Happy Hour at my favorite restaurant and bar. Immediately after work, me and the guys, from my department at work, would carpool over to the restaurant and bar for the usual Happy Hour. People would actually go to Happy Hour just to watch me get drunk and sing Karaoke. Looking back, I can’t believe that I made such a complete fool of myself.

One of my buddies suggested that I go to an addiction rehab center. ‘Yeah right, what do you think I am a loser?’ He told me that several years ago he had an alcohol and drug problem and after attending an addiction rehab center for treatment, he is now drug-free. An addiction rehab center is for people who are unable to handle alcohol responsibly. Besides, I would only get drunk during Happy Hour. An addiction rehab center is for people who drink alcohol like water…daily—non-stop. I can control my alcohol…so I thought.

Eventually, my world began to turn upside down. One day, I was scheduled to work the weekend shift and I showed up to work completely wasted. It became an uncontrollable habit; I could no longer wait till Friday for Happy Hour with the guys. I would mix alcohol with everything and drink like there was no more tomorrow. At work, I would mix bourbon with my Latte. I was completely buzzed at times. One of my co-workers said that during a training session, I began to talk with slurred speech; non of the trainees understood a word that I was saying. Rumors began to spread around the office that I was a heavy drinker and looked like a blotted fish with my baggy eyes and blotted face.

Everything hit the fan when corporate decided to do a random drug-screening test for new and existing employees. Drug tests are usually for new employees, not permanent employees like myself. I had 72 hours to sober up. I couldn’t wait until it was over so that I could go back to my daily routine, my fix of what I called ‘Latte on the rocks’.

When my results came back positive from the drug test, I was suspended from work for an entire month. That’s when I finally hit rock bottom. A friend of mine at work confronted me and suggested that I visit an addiction rehab center for help. He even gave me the 800 number to call the addiction rehab center.

Making the Decision to Call an Addiction Rehab Center

An addiction rehab center helps individuals to start their recovery from their drug or alcohol addiction. An addiction rehab center teaches people, like myself, to function well in our community, at work and even at home. According to experts, people who have recovered from drug and alcohol abuse is due to attending in-patient drug rehab. In-patient drug rehab is considered successful for people who have been unsuccessful with outpatient.

People who have been abusing drugs for several years require a more intensive treatment that lasts longer than the average patient. According to statistics, people who stay in an addiction rehab center more than three months tend to have greater results than people who have a shorter stay.

An addiction rehab center healing process addresses a person’s mental health issues and chemical dependency. An addiction rehab program provides group and individual support. It is good to know that you are not alone and that you are not the only one who is suffering from addiction. An addiction rehab center offers the 12-step recovery program, self-help support groups, and it provides an assortment of spiritual philosophies and practices to improve your personal growth and spiritual well-being.

An addiction rehab center is there to help people who want to live a drug-free life, whether its drugs or alcohol. I’ve learned that a person has to have the willingness to want to change their way of life. No one forced me to change and my recovery certainly didn’t happen over night. My experience at drug rehab was a difficult one but I was determined to make it work. I wanted my old way of life back before I started drinking.

Alcohol was controlling my life and even when I tried to stop on my own, I couldn’t...it was like an uncontrollable force. Eventually, I couldn’t live without alcohol and my body depended on it.

To me, one of the best things about being drug-free is that I’m free. I’m not a slave to my addiction anymore. Today, I feel as though I can accomplish anything in life and I don’t need the assistance of chemicals to accomplish it.

I never thought that I would be attending an addiction rehab center as patient. I was on top of the world…I had it all—a 6-figures income, a Lexus and a lovely 5-bedroom home in the Hampton Bays on Long Island. Twelve years ago, if I didn’t make the most important decision to surrender my alcohol dependency by calling the addiction rehab center, I guarantee that I would have eventually lost everything.
